Day Trip From Bangkok to Ayutthaya
The Bang Pa-in Royal Palace also known as the Summer Palace, is one of the former palace complexes used by the Thai Kings. It is located on the Chao Phraya River bank in Ayutthaya Province. The palace includes vast gardens, lush green lawns, a Chinese-style royal palace and throne room, the Sages’ Lookout, and many other features including a pavilion constructed in the middle of the pond.
This was our first stop on our private day tour of Ayutthaya from Bangkok, operated by Travel Indochina. This included pick up and drop off at our Bangkok hotel, local guide, driver, air conditioned car (Toyota Corolla?), buffet lunch, and tours of the Bang Pa-In Royal Palace, Historical City of Ayutthaya, and a private long tail river boat ride around the island as well.
Below is an example of the lush green gardens and landscape depicting a family of elephants on the lawn which were very detailed and beautiful. Exploring the palace by golf cart is an interesting way of getting around especially in hot temperatures of above 35 degrees celsius. It costs 400 baht ($14 US). I chose to rent one with my friend and our local guide.
Within the compound is this lookout tower known as Ho Withun Thasana or Sages’ Lookout. Climbing up provides excellent views of the entire palace especially the Chinese influenced/gifted palace known as Wehart Chamrunt or Heavenly Light, since Thailand is also influenced by Chinese in the past.
